AFAIK, for the E90, you cannot code the keys after the chip is produced, they are only coded in the production line, and you cannot decode them after that. BMW makes 10 chips for every car, and keeps it with them. If you lose a key, you have to have one made in Germany from the original set of 10 chips.

If you have a working key fob and want to program additional keys, follow these simple steps: Take the working key fob along with the ones you want to program inside the car with all doors and windows closed. Put the working key into the ignition and turn to position one. Programming a New Key from Scratch These instructions are for programming a new key when you do not have a working key fob. Insert key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 and back rapidly 5 times. Remove the key 3. Hold the unlock button and press the BMW logo 3 times, then release the unlock button. Replacement BMW key fobs must be programmed before use. Programming initializes your remote key and pairs it with your BMW, letting you use it to lock and unlock your vehicle. Activating the OEM alarm will enable a chirp sound when locking/unlocking the doors from the key fob, and if you have the iDrive system installed, you will be able to easily activate and deactivate some of the alarm features.
